Instrumental Music
What is it? The instrumental music program at Emerald State School is available to students in year 4, 5 and 6 and seeks to provide students the opportunity to further develop their musical interest and abilities. The program allows students to play both individually and as a member of an ensemble while at school and in the community. Emerald State School participates in the Central Highlands Festival of Bands and the statewide Fanfare competition.
Recruitment process:
The recruitment process at Emerald State School is conducted during Term 4 of Year 3. This process begins with an information session for all current year 3 students and their parents. At this session the Instrumental Music Teacher will discuss the program and what is involved. They will also demonstrate several of the instruments on offer and answer any questions.
If, after this session, you would like your child considered for the program, please return the Expression of Interest form to the school office. This allows the Instrumental Music teacher to consult with your child’s classroom and music teachers regarding your child’s:
· Academic ability
· Ability to complete set tasks on time
· Ability to be organized and work independently
· Ability to achieve long term goals
· Parental support
· Musical ability including rhythm, tone etc.
Following this consultation, your child will participate in an observation session. At this session, students will hold the various instruments and explore making sounds while establishing their aural skills and physical attributes.
Upon completion of this process you and your child will be notified as to whether they have been successful in gaining a position in the Instrumental Music program.
Please note: before commencing tuition all forms must be returned to the school office.
When does it happen? Every Monday and Friday.
